Scientists/Engineers should:

  • Engage with the candidates before they begin writing their research proposal and provide suggestions and/or feedback on the candidate’s ideas and NSF NCAR strategic priorities and goals. This could be done either via email or a virtual meeting.
  • Answer specific questions regarding the feasibility of a science project, ideas, or theory.
  • Discuss the candidate's research interests and background. This may include reviewing figures/simulations/etc. Scientists may provide suggestions on figures to include in their research proposal but should not suggest specific edits to figures.
  • Suggest and/or provide contact information to candidates regarding other scientists that could provide feedback as necessary.

Scientists/Engineers should not:

  • Write any portion of a candidate’s research proposal.
  • View/review a candidate’s draft written proposal or provide edits on proposals. If a candidate sends a written proposal as a way of introduction, inform them you cannot review it. If a candidate sends a draft written proposal as a way of introduction, ask them instead to summarize their research interests (which can be done either via a virtual meeting or email).
