Being an Intern at NSF NCAR

NCAR summer interns standing in a group outside the Mesa Lab.

Summer interns do exciting research on science and engineering at one of several labs at NSF NCAR and UCAR.  These projects range from studying dangerous weather conditions to developing apps for presenting climate data to designing part of a solar telescope.  Each student works with a mentor or a team to develop and execute a project, and many will present their research at a summer poster session. Some will go on to present at conferences!

As a part of the internship at NSF NCAR, students participate in a weekly workshop on communicating science and professional development.  These interns are undergraduate and graduate students. Visiting graduate students at NCAR are also welcome to attend. The table below shows the schedule for intern workshops in 2023.
