The GEO REU community maintains a listserv, hosts quarterly teleconferences, shares resources on this website, and organizes oral and poster sessions at the annual fall meeting of the AGU in San Francisco, among other activities. Join the GEO REU Listserv to stay updated on upcoming events (teleconferences, conferences), access shared resources, and connect with a community where you can ask questions and engage.

Announcing the 2024 In-Person GEO REU PI Workshop

Join us at the 2024 GEO REU Workshop in Phoenix, AZ, at a gathering of REU managers to share insights and strategies, and build connections with each other. This NSF-funded workshop covers travel to Phoenix including two nights hotel and airfare for one manager per GEO REU Site.

SACNAS NDiSTEM Conference

Eligibility: PIs, managers, and staff members of an NSF REU site with a current or new REU award are eligible for travel coverage.

Travel Package: The NSF funding for this workshop covers travel for one PI or manager per NSF GEO REU site. The package includes:

  • Airfare to and from Phoenix, AZ
  • Two nights of lodging (Oct. 29th, 30th) (Additional nights must be covered by your own award funds)
  • Per diem ($50+/day for food and incidentals)
  • Ground transportation to and from the airports
  • Travel arranged by NSF NCAR in direct communication with each REU PI

Registration fee: A registration fee will apply to all participants to cover additional conference costs. The amount is yet to be determined.

  • Hotel: Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel
  • Address: 100 N 1st St, Phoenix, AZ 85004
  • Check-in: Monday, October 28th
  • Check-out: Wednesday, October 30th

Conveniently located around the corner from the Phoenix Convention Center, where SACNAS will take place (a 3-minute walk away).

You may choose to extend your stay using your REU funding to attend SACNAS.

REU PIs are strongly encouraged to attend SACNAS!

NSF program officers encourage REU PIs to participate in the SACNAS National Diversity in STEM Conference (NDiSTEM) and engage with students and faculty from diverse backgrounds and Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs).

About SACNAS

The SACNAS conference registration fee includes several sit-down meals with attendees, typically students through postdocs. Registration costs less if you become a SACNAS member.

Take advantage of this excellent opportunity to attend SACNAS with your travel costs largely covered by the GEO REU workshop.

These workshops are open to interested leaders and managers of REU internship programs. REU sites that are funded by the NSF Geosciences Directorate will receive support to send one representative to the workshop, including travel and registration. Others pay their travel and registration using other funds.
