Educational Resources

Looking for more information about the science of GOTHAAM or air quality as an educator or teacher? You have come to the right place!

Educators can check out these resources and lessons to learn about air quality

  • Sensing Air Pollution - Activity - TeachEngineering
    • Students learn about electricity and air pollution while building devices to measure volatile organic compounds (VOC) by attaching VOC sensors to prototyping boards. In the second part of the activity, students evaluate the impact of various indoor air pollutants using the devices they made.Catching air pollution
    • A useful introduction to indoor air pollution and understanding there are things in the air that we cannot see.
    • Recommended for Pre K-2
  • Multiyear plots of air quality data
    • Students observe how air quality changes over time, for a selected location, using data from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
    • Recommended for Grades 6-8
  • Ozone test
    • In this activity, students observe how rubber bands deteriorate, developing cracks or pits, in locations with different ozone levels.
    • Recommended for Grade 6-8
  • Introduction to air pollution
    • This lesson will provide students with an overview of the primary influencers that determine air quality. By completing the following activities, students will 1) develop an understanding of how to find and use data to determine the air quality of a location, and 2) analyze factors that influence a location’s air quality.
    • Recommended for K-12
